I was surprised how much I liked this book. It was definitely the best of the 4 "Sabin" books. The way they developed their relationship was so sweet.

3.5 stars for me. This was a throwback read for one of my book clubs. The last time I read this was over 10 years ago. Narrations have changed. I did not like the narration for this audiobook. That said, I was surprised by how well the book held to to modern day. Usually there are technology differences that trip you up. In this book it was more of a notable absence of technology. I was also pleased to see a smart and business savvy woman in a romance from the late 80s.

This is a reread of an old favorite. I read the book the first time, ten years ago, and it was the book that made me addicted to Linda Howard. I love it as much now as I did the first time I read.

Bisa dibilang White Lies itu klasik.

Seandainya temenku ga meminjamkan ini sama aku, mungkin selamanya aku bakalan ga suka sama genre romance

Mungkin selamanya aku bakalan buta sama namanya dunia penerbitan dan ga ketemu temen - temen pembaca yang asyik.

Mungkin bakalan buta sama internet.

Mungkin juga malah ga ngerti Goodreads!

So, many thanks for Tata, a friend who lend me this book. You make a big change for me and maybe you will never know that someday you will make a monster who named Ren that love and eat romance books everyday ;)

Old school romance recced by my mom on our latest camping trip. Cool premise, very 80s execution (he seems like a pushy jerk the second half of the book, and her reasoning is flimsy). Audiobook.

This book is a different kind of romantic suspense. While there is definitely a mystery/suspense plot going on in the background, and that plot has important impact on the characters, the main plot takes place away from the action. Nevertheless, the story unfolding of recovering and discovery is well-paced and well-written. I was compelled to keep reading and figure out what the truth was, and I was moved by the developing relationship between the characters.

This is a short book, but above average and worth the time.

Quite goooood. His forwardness was refreshing. He knew from the beginning what he wanted and he wasn't embarrassed about it in the least. He was so honest about it. To me the story felt cut short. In my opinion it would have been a good idea to continue the story and show how they settled into life together and how his family met them both after the explosion. Also, she could have wrote a few scenes of them developing their bond. Most of the time in the cabin was spent narrating how he stomped around in the snow.

This book was simultaneously interesting and cracked me up.

So it went something like this:

Jay was married to Steve for years but they've been divorced for long time and she hasn't heard from him since. So the FBI knocks on her door one day and says 'come identify this guy, we think he might be your ex or he might be our agent we can't tell.'

Jay is all "Sure."

So she looks at a guy who is in a coma in a hospital bed with limbs in a cast, tubes going in and out, no fingerprints (they were burned), his head wrapped and what parts of his face she can she is looking not-quite-like her ex's.

Jay is all "Yeah, I dunno...."

FBI is all "I know you can't see them cuz they are all wrapped up and shit, but he's got brown eyes. Your husband had brown eyes."

Jay is all "Sure, if you say so, then yeah, that's Steve."

So Jay hangs out for, like weeks, waiting for MaybeNot!Steve to wake up. And falls in love with him while he was sleeping. (Hey that's a good name for a movie, write it down!)

Finally! MaybeNot!Steve wakes up and he totally fell in love with Jay during his coma!! and is so happy except....

MayNot!Steve is all "Ermm...Uhhh.... I don't remember anything...? So I am this Steve guy for reelz?"

Jay is all "Yeah, I dunno....your voice sounds different but...."

FBI guy is all "Dude, you're Steve."

Jay is all (Kanye Shrug) "Yeah, you're my guy."

So they take off the bandages and ......

I won't reveal what happens next. Suffice it to say we get spy vs. spy hijinks, love, betrayal, secrets, lies and we finally find out if this guy is Steve or not?

It was a fun and good read and I like that old Howard magic. But I had to laugh at Jay's half-assed "identification". But that had to happen for the story to work the way it needed to.

Such a promising cover but the book couldn’t stand up to my expectations. I liked the idea and the story started well but it went penny dreadful fast. It’s an easy read but extremely predictable.
You won’t miss much if you skip this.
