Pros: truly bizarre illustrations and a hint of playful trickery, always welcome in (perhaps even expected of) a Gaiman piece. Also features a dad waiting for the children at the end - would make a good father's day book.
Cons: the illustrations create a narrative that hinges on a damsel in distress. Why does it have to be her kidnapped and the boy with the sword?

The dangerous alphabet, a darker twist on teaching a child the alphabet. It was interesting to say the least, but not a book I personally fancy or ever see myself using or suggesting the use of in the future.

Clever alphabet couplets, reminiscent of Edward Gorey's Gashlycrumb Tinies, with drawings that seem a mix of steampunk, manga, and something from the mind of Edgar Allen Poe. I'm not sure what age group would appreciate it the most, trying to find the various things in the drawings represented by the illustrated letter, but I know a number of us adults at the library enjoyed searching for things beginning with "O." Can you say "offal?"

The excitement, the couplets, the rhyming, and THE ART all came together for me with this one. It's fun and may give you the creeps; it's worth it, in piles and heaps!

I know this isn't a cool thing to admit... But... I think I may not like Neil Gaiman. I know, I know, I SHOULD... But... This just didn't do anything for me- felt like a sort of Edward gorey ripoff/homage, but the writing was not very good. The artwork was great- that was the strong part here. Shrug, sigh.
