Seems like a really gentle read to begin with then really really sad in such a brutal, unnecessary, and disturbing way, both the ‘resolution’ and the final chapter - its also extremely derogatory, she seems to punish her characters

Disappointing from the second half onwards - wanted it to be so much more but I still enjoyed it

Appropriate title; this was a pleasure to read, it pulled you into the period and the main character’s world. Well written, absorbing, I finished it within 48 hours and I am not a fast reader.
I have read the criticism of the ending and this did not effect me as I accidentally missed reading the prologue. To stop the end being ruined, I would recommend you also don’t read it until you have finished the book. Life has not got a happy ending and even though I am a huge Jane Austen fan, not all novels need a fairy tale ending. I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end.

Interesting premise based on real events, but the interesting details feel rushed and glossed over while the romantic life of the main character is emphasized.

Incredibly written.
Normally I don't pick up something set in the 1950's/60's but I'm so glad I did. Its so well written that for someone like me who isn't as familiar with that time, could fully be immersed and made to feel like I lived it too.
The characters are wonderfully done I got so invested in their stories. In no way did I know how this would end at any point throughout the book, which I loved, I was always kept guessing right up until those last pages.
