In the previous I found myself wishing all the main characters would just die. In this book I wish all of the characters die.

I don't remember liking this book quite so much my first time around. It might help that this time I listened to the audiobook, which had an excellent narrator. The pacing isn't perfect, and not every character has a complete arc, but I still really enjoyed spending time in the world. Even though a decent amount of the actual events felt inconsequential to the overall story, or setup for future books, I didn't mind. For example, there isn't much progress in the war against the demons (despite it being the focus of the series) but I'm much more interested in the relationships and conflicts between the human characters, which this book delivered upon. Especially in the cliffhanger ending.

I did enjoy this book. Just didn’t want to finish it. Took a little while to get back into the “language” and meaning of the special world words.

Just as The Desert Spear revealed new layers to the world of The Warded Man, The Daylight War expands the world even further. Half Companion Novel, Half Sequel, The Daylight War is a worthy entry in a fantastic series.
