I’m sad that I didn’t love this, but I just always felt on the outside of the story/characters. The midway point where something major happens definitely intrigued me, but my interest waned again as story went on. I know lots of people love this series, it just wasn’t for me I guess.

Magical Kung fu mafia saga. What’s not to like? Actually I was sort of blown away by how good this book is. The characters feel so real, especially in the way each family member’s perspective tells you about everyone’s flaws. By the end of the book I was literally holding my breath as the events unfolded. The world building was phenomenal— the author slowly reveals things through exposition rather than endless narrative explanations or conversations. And the pacing was perfect. I’m so invested in this story I can’t wait 2 weeks for the sequel.
