Meh. Characters were likable but the story meandered all over the place. Some of the main character's inner dialogue and exposition went on and on and on. I probably wouldn't have finished it if I was reading it, but I was listening to the audiobook and it was fine for filling time while driving. The narrator was okay although he tended to make the main character sound like he was 80 instead of 35. And his chuckling in this weird subservient way was really off putting. So in a nutshell, not great; could have used a better editor.

I really liked the character of Cazaril. A bit frail and flawed but still honorable. Just the way I like my heroes. And the women are awesome too. Some interesting questions about theology too and some insights on what it meant to be, I dunno, vessels of holiness.

Finally getting back to this series. I like the way Bujold examines religion in this series. Eager to get on to the others.

The narrator took a little bit of getting used to, but he ended up working for me.
