I seem to be in the minority here in thinking that this book was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as profound as I was expecting it to be. The pacing was weird. Zach and Lexi's relationship was extremely rushed, which made it hard to empathize with them as a couple. None of the characters felt fully fleshed out. Dialogue was unnatural at times. Overall, just underwhelming for what I had been expecting.

This book has tugged on my heart strings but also made me mad. I'm not sure if it's the momma in me that felt so bad for Lexie and also mad at Jude. I really disliked her. I get it grief isn't easy but your child needs you. I wonder if it had been zach driving if she'd be as mad and want him punished and in  prison? Also to not own up to your part in that night, if you had truly meant what you had said they would of called and none of it would of happened. Jude does have some redemption towards the end.
I have not read many of Kristen Hannah books but definitely will pick up another. She did her job well and invoked emotions. Although I did spend most this book in tears, it was worth the read.

Many of this author's books are boring and overwritten, but this one isn't too bad. There are definitely a few too many stereotypical characters and so much of the story is too predictable, but it was still interesting. Although there weren't too many surprises, I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen, and ultimately, the ending was satisfying.

Can't say I'll be recommending this one, but all in all, it wasn't terrible.

Such an emotional, painful book to read especially as a mother who already worries about her kids excessively. My heart broke a million times and I absolutely loved it.
