Food can be a powerful memory trigger, and this book takes it one step further with time travel to moments of the past where the same food was served. It even includes recipes! There were some intriguing time travel concepts though not all of the ideas are as well explored. Some of the future jumping and how the trees related and how the trees were found weren't totally explained. If anything, I wanted a bit more exploration! However, a sweet middle-grade tale of family, food, and friendship.

Thanks to the publisher for sending me an ARC of the novel. This has in no way affected my review.

I really love the concept a lot, and the first third of the book was beautiful and terrific. The convoluted family secrets brought the book down from a four, though. If this had just been a book about the integral role that food can play in our memories and connections, it would have been so much better.
