Good but choppy

This story was a bit choppy. It jumped around in a way that makes the story seem out of order. The story line wasn't that well thought out, and seemed to lead the reader by the nose. I'm curious as to what part 2 in the series will be about.

I love me a good psychological thriller and mystery and definitely got it in this story! Although I guessed who the perpetrator was about halfway into the story, it was still entertaining. I love a story with good secrets, family issues, and overall things never seeming as they are on the surface.

I really did relate to the FMC, and sympathized with what she must have gone through (and loved her and her mother's name). The prose was beautifully written and descriptions were vivid, and secrets are revealed, little by little. Kept me turning the pages wanting to know how all the pieces fit together.

The only thing I had a slight quibble with is that everything just tied together too easily at the end, and seemed almost anti-climactic.

Interested to know what the next book in the series holds!

Simplistic plot, things are told rather than shown. DNF at 30%

Excellent narration - a well chosen cast. The writing is strong, good pacing and flow. The story , while initially intriguing, devolves into lifetime movie material. The first time I listened to this, I had to stop halfway from all the eye-rolling and forgot about it. However I began relistening from the beginning, and found the other elements kept this story afloat and it earns it a solid 3 stars.

On the whole I enjoyed this book and got into it quickly. However I didn't enjoy the ending. a light read to pass the time.

I rated this book a 4 when I finished, but the more I contemplate my rating, I think maybe it's closer to a 3.5 rounded up. I liked it. I was surprised by a bunch of things throughout the story that I didn't see coming. I was interested in continuing the story, it flowed nicely, wrapped up well, didn't leave any holes in the plot, but I didn't really like any of the characters. I didn't like another book by this author, Not One of Us because the ending was terrible, that was not the case in this book and I'm glad I gave this author another chance. I also read the second book to this that doesn't really tie in to the story, just the town, and that one was excellent, a solid 4.0! I'll keep looking to add Debbie Herbert books to my want to read list!
