Not much action, that’s for sure. A pleasant story.

Thank you to the publisher for giving me a free copy of this book! All opinions are my own.

Anne Tyler at her finest, in my opinion. This novel follows the Garrett family over the span of a few decades and is a quiet study in family dynamics and the way in which our families shape us, even generations later.

This is full of Tyler's signature quiet prose and astute familial observations which made it unputdownable for me.

If you need your books to have a plot, this is not the book for you. I personally really love character-driven stories, especially when they span decades. This is that book, but it wasn't as good as many other similar style books. The story is just a bit...dull.

Oh, this book was absolutely perfect. Nothing really happens, but everything happens ~ it’s *just* the story of 70ish years of a family in Baltimore and all of the family and marriage things that happen in that time and there are moments of such exquisite perfection that made me gasp with the feeling of YES, that’s exactly what it’s like having and being a part of a family. Quiet and beautiful.
