I love this series. Great characters and the story usually goes places everyone else avoids. BUT this one just wasn't satisfying; even more so than the last one. Jax use to be a great character who was blunt in expressing her opinions. Now she is a boring saint who follows orders and thinks she's the One. She use to be surrounded by great characters with quirks. Now every character is perfect and the best at their job and they are all split up now. What hooked me on this series was Jax and March got together at the end of the first book rather than dragging it out forever like most series. Unfortunately the only way the author now seems capable of creating conflict is by contriving a means to break them up in each book. The first person point of view is getting very tedious. I mean seriously there are all these freaking time jumps from a fight then the heroine is out cold in medbay and you get 'weeks later i was able to walk out whole.' Surely there is a better way. Honestly this book felt like filler. All it did was show a bunch of different scenes thrown together showing the fights that esculated the war and then sacrificed a main foe without much focus and no grief?! Plus there is the thing I hate in everyone of these books: a storyteller's job is to tell a story start to finish. Ending on a cliff hanger alienates me. and honestly this cliff hanger doesn't make me want to immediately start the next book. Guess I'll be waiting for the price to drop.

*hums to herself*

"This is war
And it’s on tonight
So get up and fight
Get up and fight
You had all your life
To run and hide
Now step up, now step up
Let’s do this"

So here comes war. Everything is dark, no planet is safe anymore, people are dying all over the place and March is hot as hell. You would think this as an awesome book. I know I did *winks* And it was (kinda) at least for some parts.

See the beginning was ok but I wasn’t impressed. A bit too boring for a good Sirantha Jax book. But then I considered the fact that this might be, how do they say, the silence before the storm. And it kinda was, when I think about it. Anyways I enjoyed it a lot; there were many great moments and painful ones as well, the characters were ok most of the time (everyone wanted to be a hero – lol) and the story was actually awesome.

I have some tiny details that influenced my score:
1. Planet Anzu – totally one extra star for that
2. Jax’s big “Godzilla” moment with the freaky alien – one extra star

I was going to give it five stars but the ending ruined it. Why did she have to make things complicated again? Suicide mission? Really? Knowing March and how he feels about these things? And you say you love him Jax? Really? D’oh!

And now for something I haven’t done in a long time.

Are you ready?

Are you sure?

Extra sure?

Ok?

Here goes!

Top 5 quotes (EEEH?)

#5 “Men can be very stupid,” he says bitterly. “We cease to value what we have until it’s gone, and only then do we realize the gold we glimpsed in distant hills paled as dross compared to treasure we had in hand.”

#4 “Say you love me?”
His long fingers trail down my cheeks, shaping the sharp line, along the curve of my chin, and up to the swell of my lips. The warmth lingers like a phantom kiss. Tears slip from the corners of my eyes.
“More than the blood in my veins. More than the heart in my body.”
I laugh softly, unsteadily. “A simple ‘yes’ would have sufficed.”
“Nothing is simple between us. It never has been.”

#3 His answer comes in the form of a feeling so profound I have no name for it. Love dwarfs it because it’s longing, need, desire, heat, and a complex sense of belonging coiled around one frail, strong person. Me.

#2 “I am with you. You are my captain, my commander, and my love. Neither war nor death will change it.”

#1 A relationship shouldn’t impose limits—and if it does, then it’s wrong. A lover should help you exceed your potential, not clip your wings.

P.S. What’s March’s first name?

P.P.S. I shouldn’t write reviews while having a fever. I tend to be extra bitchy.

Accessible sci-fi at its best, the world of Sirantha Jax is richly drawn and consistently pulls me in, despite the alien setting and the detailed rules of the world. My mind boggles that book one introduced such a catastrophic change to this particular universe and that the impact continues to be felt in book 4. Though I'll be sad when the series comes to a conclusion, I am also glad that there's an end in sight (two more books to go - sniffle!), as I feel it will do true service to this wonderful series.

And how about that cliffhanger...?!

As always, Sirantha Jax does not disappoint. This is a seat-of-the-edge I-can't-put-away-the-book story that will keep you reading even if you want to sleep. The plot gets thicker, the fights fiercer and the emotion and character development even better. Highly recommended!
Can't wait to read the next installment.

I absolutely love this series.

As a reader, I'm not compelled by "hard science" sci-fi. I prefer sci-fi that is grounded just enough in scientific reality to allow exploration of character and interpersonal relationships to be the crux of the story. This is exactly what the Sirantha Jax series embodies, and I adore it.

There's a touch of romance, refreshing in a genre book. It's silly to pooh-pooh this, it would be akin to pooh-poohing the all-encompassing nature of life which *gasp* includes love and sex. I applaud Ann Aguirre for making this choice, and think it ridiculous that sci-fi classicists demand she answer for it.

Great characters, cinematic action, and wry humor touch each book and make the series great.

I like this series, but each book is so tonally different than the last, and they're all so fatalistic. It's entertaining, but odd.

This is my kind of escapism. The last three books in the series make me wonder how much a really intimate relationship with an effectively neutered partner combined with a sexually charged relationship with a mostly unavailable partner is wish fulfillment in some way for the author, and also whether the protagonist for this series has ever considered that she might be poly.
