This book had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, it was like being on a roller coaster ride the whole way through.
There was a lot of information given to us in the book and I applaud Coombs for not once making us feel overwhelmed with it all. I found the writing so well done, it didn't give too much away but just enough to keep our interest and keep us reading until that pivotal moment.
The plot was wild and like nothing I had read before, which instantly drew me into this book. One of my favourite things about this book was how chapter one set the scene for why we were in Scotland and on this journey - it was the perfect back story.
I took an instant liking to Hanlon, and I could see why she wanted the extreme change of scenery from London to the high hills of Scotland, especially with the way that Coombs described it, the location sounded idyllic.
I did dislike some of the other characters, but not because they were badly written, because they were so well written as the "bad guys" of the book, which put me off them.
Coombs wove so many strands into this book, making us question who we could trust and building up a sense of unease so great that I couldn't put this book down. Something I was impressed with as often a book with such deep webs of lies and deceit can be intermingled and not make sense
On the whole, everything about this book was worthy of 5 stars. I was on the edge of my seat reading it and I was blown away with the web of lies and deceit that Coombs wrote into this book. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something to hold their interest and keep them guessing.

This book was an ok read. I liked how the author wrote the plot and her characters. The only problem I had with this book is, that even though it said this book was a mystery thriller it really wasn't. I just wished it was more scary. I go this as an ARC from netgally.

There wasn't actually a butler, but trust me when I said the butler did it. It was pretty obvious.

Loved it. The audiobook is available on Scribd and even though I didn't always understand the Scottish accents the narrator added to this gritty murder mystery, I had no trouble following the plot. Loved the atmosphere and moody setting of a small island with lots of places to hide the bodies. DCI Hanlon is an angry, disillusioned and somewhat bitter cop about to be fired for her overly aggressive approach to policing. She is told to relax and ponder her future while on vacation only to arrive on the same day the body of a young woman is discovered. Hanlon is very good at gathering information, especially when she discovers some unsavory activities taking place in her hotel. Hard to know who to trust when everyone in this tight knit community are less than truthful.
Terrific start to this series. Thanks for the recommendation, Corrie. Looking forward to more Hanlon time.

Silenced For Good is the newest instalment in an intriguing exciting crime thriller series by author Alex Coombs although he has written more of this DI Hanlon series under the name Alex Howard. It took a little more time than I am usually used to in order to be completely gripped but you should give it a little extra time to become addictive as it's worth having patience. I feel the reason that it took more time than most to be engrossed was because Coombs was busy not only setting up the cast of characters and plot for this opening instalment but also the rest of the series which is unavoidable really.
It pulls no punches in that it’s really quite brutal, profane and, at times, graphic so is by no means suitable for those who enjoy their thrillers tame as it’s not for the faint-hearted. This is a series that certainly shows promise and I indeed hope that Ms Coombs continues it and that it continues to progress and go from strength to strength. I look forward to the next instalment being even better. Many thanks to Boldwood Books for an ARC.
