This book was so beautifully written it was breathtaking. Hannah Kent understood the landscape and the world these people inhabited in a way that felt both loving and scared, and perfectly set the scene for the heartbreaking and beautiful story that unfolded in these pages.

Rather bleak but well written story. There were some overly descriptive scenes that I could have done without, but overall an engaging read.

This books is really well written and well researched. The world the author describes is so vivid in my mind. This book is does not have a happy ending but it is hauntingly beautiful.

 a simple murder story told in such a beautiful and haunted writing, set against the biting beauty and coldness of 1800's Iceland, a definite must read for people who love atmospheric and character driven books.

And the audio was also phenomenal in its narration.
