I liked this more than I expected to based on other reviews, but at the end it all feels unfinished. So many interesting characters and intriguing storylines but most of them fizzled out or were just left dangling. Several times I thought I sensed something big coming but then it just ... didn’t.

An entertaining read but not worth it in the end.

Definitely not Sarah's Key. It's probably not fair to make the comparison since they are entirely different stories, but this was a big let down after reading Sarah's Key.

Urrrrrrg!

Her writing style totally sucks you right in. I was really into this book after melanies accident. easy peasy and lovely to read her style. I also am attending a Celebration of Life this weekend and found the themes of love and death appropriate.

BUT WTF (stop reading here if you dont want to spoil the end for yourself!) The big `secret` is that Antonio and Melanies mother was having an affair with a woman before she died?! That is it? BORING. there wasnt even the real mystery of how she died, until i was too bored of the story to care. The death of Pauline was the most touching and grabbing part of the story. SHe should have written the whole novel on that instead in my opinion. this one was a dud.

If I can say something nice, it was very refreshing to read a story like this from a male POV. I did actually grow to like Antonio.

I had rather enjoyed Tatiana de Rosnay's other book "Sarah's Key" as I couldn't wait to find out how it ended. This book I had figured out rather quick but I kept reading hoping that there would be something at the end that would blow my mind, there was not. A very hum drum book with a secret that could be figured out by reading only two of the letters in the book. I also did not care for the audio version of this book maybe it's because I don't speak French and could not keep the names and places clear in my head. I just heard gibberish. It read easily enough though when I would switch to the hard copy.

Enjoyed this novel more than Sarah's Key. I found the main character, while sometimes irritating, at least more realistic than the main character of the author's previous works.

A Secret Kept has various plot points- one, a main getting over a painful divorce, a love story, the man attempted to deal with his adolescent children, and an investigation into his late mother's life.

The book was well paced, and adequately written, although I found the characters of the women in his life to be a little un-realistic.

Another de Rosnay that I couldn't put down. Read in a day.
