Synopsis: I'm sure everyone has heard of these books if not already read everything by Rick Riordan, but if you didn't know this series follows a young boy as he discovers his father is one of the Greek Gods. With the help of other "half-bloods"(and a satyr), he finds himself in ridiculously difficult situations and saves the world from a variety of mythological creatures while having the hots for almost every female character he meets along the way.

Review: I understand that being 21 and listening to this series on audiobook might have affected my reading experience, but I quite enjoy middle-grade literature. This is an action-packed and fast-paced fantasy series that introduces kids to Greek mythology. These are great books if you're looking for a light read, but if you swim below surface level, you'll notice that a few things are missing. Unfortunately Rick Riordan's similes and I didn't get along throughout the entire series. We follow Percy from age 12-16 and there is very little character development or moments when I felt anything for the characters (in terms of love and loss and triumphs). It's hard not to compare this to the Harry Potter series, but I would tear up whenever they would win a Quidditch match. Overall, I see why this is a successful series and am hoping to enjoy The Heroes of Olympus series a little bit more.

I really enjoyed this last instalment. I think it wrapped the series up really well, while still having an ending that has potential for more (ie the next big prophecy).
I liked this one more than the other books because it really showed more character development than the others.
I'm definitely going to read the rest of Riordan's work, starting with the Kane Chronicles. I've come to love mythology based books, and can't wait to see the other takes on the different mythologies.

I always forget how uncessary and annoying the love triangle is, especially when it really does not matter in the face of large stakes. Otherwise the book is basically perfect to me.
