This volume focuses primarily on the consequences of the battle with the Beast of Gevaudan. We're given more to Chloe's back story as the hidden vampire and why she became a curse bearer...voluntarily! All this we find out because Noe has been taken back to the D'apchier house by Chloe and Jean-Jacques.

Vanitas, after being injured in the previous volume is being cared for by Jeanne. To raise his body temp that had become dangerously low she tries skin to skin contact. Something that really flusters her but the following day Vanitas, now recovered, seems downright cold and unaffected. I keep thinking I know how their relationship is going to go but with each volume, they throw a curveball in.

It seems that Noe has some kind of history with Naenia, the demon shadow thing that took Chloe's true name. It has something to do with Louis, Noe and Domi's childhood friend.

Just have to wait for the next volume now.

I really enjoy this story but some of the specific details do get a bit lost since I often have a long wait between volumes. I bought Vol 5 in March of last year (it was maybe a couple months out) and Vol 6 wasn’t in stock here in Sweden until January of this year. Eventually I’ll reread them all in one go or if I get too lost, I’ll just flip back through the past volumes.

Either way, I really enjoy Jun Mochizuki’s art style and her way of telling a story!
In general, the story takes place in a steampunk Paris and as the description for Vol 1 says, it is a whimsical and dark steampunk Paris.
If any of that sounds interesting, I’d say give it a go!

It’s hard to say too much about this volume without spoiling previous volumes, but the short version is in this volume the group is off on a tangent and we get a bit more backstory about one of the more important side characters!
