Gio’s voice read more often as a middle schooler than a high schooler, but it was inconsistent.

Do NOT listen to this as an audiobook. While the narrator does a lovely job with Gio, his narration for all of the female characters were so outlandish it completely took me out of the story; it was really a disservice.

I wanted to love this book a lot more than I did. Give me all the sweet, sensitive Black bi boys who play basketball! Pros: everything about Gio. Set in Indy. great bi rep. Cons: I feel like we didn't get enough of why Gio falls for David. It happens so fast with such little connection (and I don't have a general issue with insta-love). The writing style is just simplistic, overly explanatory, and slow. I honestly wish this had been written in third person.

This is a good realistic young adult read. Gio is a high schooler who is dealing with the return of his biological mother (who walked out on the family when he was young), his recent discovery that he is bisexual and dealing with being an African American young male in a still racist society. Great writing, great characters...I think high school readers will enjoy it.

A wonderful and full of heart read. I loved so much about this book. Both the characters and their relationships are fantastic. The friendships were super cute and hilarious. The romance was lovely and I absolutely adored all of the family relationships both good and bad. Gio's conversations with his mom and his step mom had me constantly tearing up. My only issue is that I felt like this needed to be longer. So much happens in such a short amount of time that if this were longer it would've given those moments time to breathe. It would have helped build more with the family relationships and romance. Still a fantastic story and I definitely plan to check out more from this author.

This was a very emotional book.

Gio was an amazing character and it was an interesting experience going on this journey with him.

My heart broke for him and I was so happy to see him find his way and figure out that family isn't always based on the family you are born into.

The side characters only made the story better.

A great read.
