Alrightie, I do think that the themes of this book are wonderful and very interesting but i feel liek the actual realization of the book fell flat. I don't know if it's the translation (and the short chapters, which I didn't enjoy) but I wasn't able to get into the book and I felt like the symbolism of it all was definitely both too clear and yet kept apart from the actual reader. It didn't work out for me in the end, sadly.

while the book itself was written in a style i found myself enjoying (for the most part), the overall plot felt unfocused. perhaps if it was a little bit longer with a little more detail, i would’ve liked it better

Atmospheric and weird, the kind of all vibes no plot story I usually enjoy. But the writing style grated on me after a while, I found my mind wandering even though this was so short. I do think the writing style aided in constructing the oppressive, constricting mood but it ended up being just boring to read. Liked the vibe but not much else worked for me.

Lush and decadent writing with a unique and eerie atmosphere but I needed either more of a plot or more character development to really fall in love with this Swedish gothic novel.

You might like this if you're a fan of Wilder Girls or Catherine House.
