3.5 stars. I enjoyed the novel right up until the cliffhanger. I really thought I was missing pages and another chapter or two, it was that jarring.

Audible free, his books are either growing on me or they're getting better. This one seemed to have less artifice and actually held together better as a true mystery / whodunit. the first one had kind of a fantastical ending that was no way you'd even have a chance to figure out this one was more plausible.I believe up to nine of his books are free and I will certainly be reading all of them

Harder for me to get into the story until the second half. Lots of historical references to the Scottish highland areas.

Solid four stars for troubled WWI vet Inspector Ian Rutledge, and for the Scottish setting.

Another great read by Todd. Each book seems to go a little deeper into Rutledge's psyche, so now I'm desperate to read the next installment.

Actual rating is 4.5 stars, too many unanswered questions at the end - hopefully they'll be answered in passing in future installments!
