Quirky, fun, thought-provoking, and straight up weird. So many metaphors explored here (technology vs. old world, bland Americanness vs. culture, cultures fighting other cultures for dominance). Also, I googled it, and I can't believe The Lois Club is a real thing! I really enjoyed the author's debut novel (Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Book Store), and this one made me officially a fan. I don't want to give any spoilers here, but if you're up for a weird book with bits of magical realism, find yourself a copy of this book.

Really more of a 3.5. Was it enjoyable, yes. Was it weird, yes. Did it live up to my expectations after reading Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore, no. But it was a cozy little easy read and I finished it.

I quite liked this! This book is so weird and unique and I just enjoyed that so much. It's short and strange but also beautiful and I will definitely have to pick up Mr. Penumbra now! I'm in the process of making sourdough bread... so we'll see if I can ever make it to her level of deliciousness. XD

Such a fun, compelling read! I couldn’t put it down, and when I had to, looked forward to the next time I could pick it up!

I’ve been reading a lot of heavy stories lately, and while they have been good, there’s so much sadness in them, coupled with so much sadness and heaviness in real life, I haven’t been nearly as compelled to read them or talk about them. But Sourdough is something completely different. No one is hurting anyone, there are no major obstacles to overcome, and the people are largely just doing their own thing in this book. And yet, we have ourselves a story: fun, compelling, and a little bit fantastical — just what the doctor ordered. I loved it!
