This one didn’t hold my attention like others by the author. If you haven’t recently read the other books with these characters it is hard to get all the storyline.

TLDR: The gang is reunited as a new Shinyun comes back stronger and badder than ever, with Magnus’ life in danger mixed with the emergence of old friends and foes. Read for the humor and Alec and Magnus rather than the plot.
After reading the first book in the series I couldn’t wait for the second. I really enjoyed reading this book as I haven’t read Clare’s work in a while.
Pros:
This book was hilarious. Most of the jokes made me grin, with some making me cackle out loud. I forgot how funny Clare’s (and now Chu)‘s modern style humor could be.
I loved seeing all of the characters reunite together, and once again seeing Jem Carstairs made me scream. I also really enjoyed Shinyun’s character. Anymore and I’ll spoil. Also I would personally volunteer to babysit Max at any given point in time.
Isabelle’s tiger scene deserves its own 5 stars.
Cons:
The plot was kind of all over the place. Shinyun just kept popping up whenever, the final conflict resolution was also not very well executed.
While I love seeing the Clary and the others appear, they didn’t really do much for the plot besides trail after Malec. I wish we could’ve had their points of view included. Or better yet, just have Malec and not the others.
Final Statements:
The book is cute, funny, and is a light read. If you’re expecting a lot of the other members you’ll be disappointed as they don’t really have much to do, but there are lots of Malec moments as well. Read this for them and the humor rather than the plot.
