I loved this. The 1989 Batman movie is simply part of my vocabulary (Batman Returns less important but still key to my childhood), so this being a sequel but with a more timely story line, written by the writer of these movies, with little Tim Burton easter eggs throughout, was very satisfying. It's not just a rehashing the movies it refers to - it truly feels like a sequel with more to say and characters to develop. They thoughtfully tackle the Wayne fortune and reparations of sorts! We see Billy Dee's Harvey Dent transform into Two Face! We see what Catwoman is up to! Barbara Gordon is around! It's all very exciting to someone who treasures the Burton Batman world, and even more so because it's actually well done. It took me 2 nights to read and I honestly remember it like I watched a movie.

I'm not sure how people who don't have deep nostalgic feelings for Burtonesque Batman would take it, though. I did find some of the action sequences confusing and tiring, but this is a normal reaction for me reading a superhero comic. Some of the little subplots were confusing, too. It was odd how some characters were supposed to look like certain actors, but overall it wasn't awkward like I've seen some other comic-characters-based-on-actors. The coloring and the lettering were also a joy to look at - everything felt very united in vibe.

If you're a fan of the Burton Batman movies, you need to read this.
