I loved the concept of this book and I love the characters in the story. I listen to my books on an audio-version and if I would have realized it was an 11 hr investment (and the second bk is another 10 hrs) I don't know if I would have dove in. I feel the book drug on and on and there was a lot of already been there move forward moments in this book. I am on the fence with if I want to devote another 10 hrs to bk 2 even though I really want to see how it ends. I think once I do read bk 2 it would have been better to be a 4 bks series (5-6 hrs each) or just one 10 hr book and get rid of all the been there did that moments. Overall I did like it mainly due to the characters and her writing of them.

Their relationship felt unnecessarily intense and unhealthy. They are both clearly in need of therapy and are instead headed towards codependency as a crutch for their trauma. This reminded me a lot of Beautiful Disaster.

I hated so many of their choices, but honestly they made it so angsty I cant say, now after finishing it, that I didn’t really like reading this. They’re both so dumb when it comes to possessiveness, and they’re both such broken characters, but honestly they also both felt super realistic to me. Their trauma and mental issues weren’t watered down and just there for the sake of being there. They were both so similar yet SO different and it was a really good look into grief/guilt. I’m looking forward to seeing them attempt to move forward from that.

I did think in the beginning I was jumping into this at the wrong starting point. All the Dollhouse stuff and his friends felt like there was a whole book before this that I missed, mainly with the way their relationship was glossed over, it felt like I was meant to already know, but I guess it was more that he didn’t care all that much and was old news in his perspective, or an issue with the writing, but honestly I wanted their book lol.

Overall I enjoyed it a lot. Will continue.

Wow… all of the feels. I’m emotionally wreaked after reading this book. So thankful that I’m reading this series well after it was published, so I can dive into the next book immediately.
