It took me a hell of a long time, but I finally finished reading this book. And in the end i'm glad I did, because Lisbeth Salander is a very interesting character. If it wasn't for her I woul have given up a long time ago probably. This second book in the trilogy starts very slowly. It describes the after math of the events of the first book in a bit too much detail if you ask me. Only when Mikael starts investigating a new case it becomes interesting again. Especially when the case appears to be intangled with Lisbeths past the book is hard to put down. Since the book ends in a kind of cliff hanger, you are much more encouraged to read the third book. More about that later!

There are no innocents. There are, however, different degrees of responsibility.

I read [b:The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo|2429135|The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1)|Stieg Larsson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327868566l/2429135._SX50_.jpg|1708725] years ago, so I kind of don’t remember what happened in the first book, but I remember that I loved it! I’ve been planning to read this second book for years now, but have been putting it off until now.

Millenium, a publishing company, is about to release a book and a bunch of articles about the sex trade and it will name names. Before they are finished, though, Dag Svensson, the author of the said book, and his girlfriend Mia Johansson, who is researching the topic for her PhD thesis, are murdered. The main suspect is Lisbeth Salander.

Lisbeth is our master hacker and the "girl" referred to in the title of the books in this series. She’s odd, suspicious, and has many dubious talents. Could she have killed the couple? Mikael Blomkvist doesn’t think so. But there is definitely more going on that has a lot to do with Lisbeth’s mysterious past.

What I liked:
- Lisbeth, especially when the book goes to Lisbeth’s POV. It’s fun having an insight into how she thinks.
- Lisbeth and Holger Palmgren
- The mystery of Zalachenko
- Paolo Roberto being a real person!
- The title! It makes sense and I get it.

What I didn’t like:
- The confusing names of the characters. What I mean is that in third person, like in the narration, they are referred to in their last name, but when other characters name them or talk to them, they use the first name or a nickname, and I have to search the characters’ full names to remember who is who again.
- That there wasn’t really a wrapped up ending, I think. It’s so obviously an introduction to the third book, not like the first book where the mystery was solved and we know we’ll deal with something different in the second book.
- Blomkvist having many lovers --- because this was the reason why Lisbeth was so pissed at him at the end of the first book!

I thought the first book was better, but this is still a really good second book! I am looking forward to finishing up the trilogy. I’m not sure if I want to read the other books in the series that are not written by Larsson himself though.

While this book moved at a faster pace throughout than the first book, I didn't enjoy it quite as much. I think it was a bit too dark for me. The subject of the mystery (sex trafficking) was really disturbing/upsetting for me. I also felt so much sadness for Lisbeth that I think it detracted me from enjoying the book completely.
