I really enjoyed reading “Animal Farm,” especially since I watched the animated film first. I think the animated film did a good job of representing the short book, but it did leave certain elements out (of course, it’s a children’s film, so it’s expected). The book was a really great quick read, and it really left me thinking and made me realize the similarities between the “Animal Farm” universe and the polarization going on in our own society along with some countries that are suffering from totalitarian regimes. I’m glad I read it!
“1984” was a lot more difficult solely because I did not expect the book to focus so much on the narrator and his very descriptive sexual relationship with Julia. Like, my friend told me that the book was sexist, but I did not expect it to be *this* bad.
I did understand the point of the book, and I thought the appendix at the end of the book explaining Newspeak was especially interesting. Overall, I understand the importance of the book, and there were several instances where I could pinpoint similar things happening in present times. I attempted to separate the sexist tendencies of male authors at Orwell’s time from the rest of the book, but it definitely cut into my enjoyment.

I enjoyed Animal Farm immensely. I’ve always wanted to read it as it wasn’t required for my high school and I’m glad I read it in college. 1984 really made me think, however I’m not sure I enjoyed the structure or plot. Lots of philosophical thinking is involved but it felt very far fetched in some cases which to me wrecked it overall. Extremely interesting topic, both really have left me thinking.

2nd time reading Animal Farm. Great book.
1984 - My favourite book ever. It was amazing. Impossible not to see parallels with modern society, and heartbreaking at times.
