Already re-reading. Best when read as an active act, rather than a passive.

I found it very hard to connect with this book. This was a bookclub recommendation, so I did finish reading it and found a lot of benefits to the discussions that came out of it, but I just didn't resonate with a lot of it myself.
I read another reader's review about this book before I started reading it and they said something about the privilege of the author and how a lot of the advice seemed somewhat shallow and catered to people of privilege. I didn't understand what they meant at the time, and forgot about the review until I got to Lesson Eight, Speak Your Truth. It occured to me that with all of the advice and exercises for speaking your truth, there was zero acknowledgement towards the *safety* of speaking your truth. I was already losing interest with the book, but that's when it completely lost me.

The author tried really hard to provide a book to inspire others. She had some good ideas but it ended up falling short for me. It seems like she means well and maybe I would have been more keen to this book if I had read years ago when I first got it. Her points had me nodding my head in agreement, it was nothing new but they were good starting points and then she would drift off into overexplaining and she would loose me, both with the unnecessary insights and the poor examples and solutions she came up with it. I ended up skimming most of this book because what did resonate with me were things that I already was working on.

Teachings that I am sure that I will come back to again and again. HeatherAsh nails what a healing and spiritual journey is when founded in nonjudgement, patience, authentic truth and deliberate action, and makes each component easy to both understand and undertake. Absolutely brilliant!
