Oh, dear Lord, oh so good!

I felt like I was reading Tamora Pierce's, "Alanna". The same inexoroble compulsion to continue reading, pushing forward to see what happens next, unable to stop myself from wondering what would happen next. A truly compelling book and I'm purchasing the next installing immediately.

Would be 5 if the beginning wasn't as slow.
As such, I'd still recommend The Shadow of the Gods' be the starting point for those new to John Gwynne.

Epic, gore-filled battles, Giants, beasts, a prophecy of a god war foretold, powerful treasure scattered about the land, death. A must read for all John Gwynne fans and a high recommendation for those looking for epic in abundance.
