I purchased this book for my ten-year-old nephew. It's an excellent, age-appropriate overview of the writing craft that provides tips for improvement while advising kids to keep writing at all costs. Prompts are included with each short chapter. Very warm and encouraging.

This book was exactly what I needed when I was in sixth grade. I loved to write, but didn't feel like I could. This book was perfect then, not as much now, but still great. =D

Lovely! The tips in this book were great and Levine's voice is wholly relatable.

Really lovely little book filled with a myriad of writing advice. Nice short chapters so you can dive in and out, and tonnes of writing prompts and exercises. Would be great for a beginning writer especially.

I took forever to finish this only because I kept putting off doing the writing exercises and felt like I couldn't keep going until I did. Well, I didn't do ALL the exercises, but I did a lot of them, and I really felt like they were excellent. The book itself was engaging, explanatory, and even though it was written for young writers, I felt like it had great advice for writers of all ages.

This is a great book for very young writers. I'd say preteens who are seriously interested in writing. There are a lot of great writing prompts and sound advice, but it's all very basic and for beginners.

This book would be great if I was ten and looking for fun prompts to write. But I am not ten, and the writing advice I'm looking for is not "keep writing" anymore.

The target audience is young writers, but even as an adult I learned a lot to improve my own writing craft. The fact that the book is so short and written simply, with its young audience in mind, makes this even better. I read it in about 2 hours, compared to the nearly 6 I spent reading Stephen King's On Writing just before (which I also really liked). Great for getting a lot out of a particular topic if you don't have lots of time.

Each chapter has a writing exercise. They start out simple in the early chapters, but later exercises build on previous ones and/or really get you thinking and being creative. I didn't do any of them myself (yet) because I was just trying to get through the book, but they're all really good for young writers, and I'll probably be revisiting some of the more complex ones myself.

I initially thought to give this 4*, but considering I'm not the target audience and thinking about it from that perspective, it's a solid 5* from me.
