Again, I read this book as part of Carnegie 2015. We still haven't found out what book we're supposed to be doing! Hopefully tomorrow! Hopefully this one! I think that this would have been better off in the Primary School Shortlist of Carnegie 2015, as the language used wasn't that sophisticated and, although it had a pretty good story line through the book, I just felt that it wasn't really the kind of book for me. So sorry Elizabeth Laird!

Read for the Carnegie Medal 2015

Sweet and slight, with some nice (not too Basil Exposition) historical context.

3.5 I found that is was fast pace, but a little under my reading level. I recommend it for younger readers!

A quick read that I felt disappointed with. Elizabeth Laird is usually an author I enjoy, but this seemed undeveloped. Think it might just be me, as the students who read this for the Carnegie Shadowing Award raved about it.

I read this because it has been shortlisted for the Carnegie award and I'm glad that I did. It's lovely to see that books aimed at younger readers is on the list, not just ones aimed at teens. (In contrast the Greenaway this year has a lot of older books on it) :)

This book is lovely, full of heart and you can't help but cheer for the main character as he's completely taken out of his comfort zone to face challenges he's never faced before, which might seem simple to you and I. I loved the family structures too as families are never easy and straight forward. Also having never been to the country it was described in a way that you could believe that you're right there, especially the scene where the athletes come to visit.
