Very good! Enjoyed the story line and concept. I do wonder if there's any historical truth to it.

3.5 stars. Liked it enough to keep reading, but I did find myself skimming through some of the overly-descriptive sections, particularly in some of the flashback scenes. I particularly appreciated the strong female characters. All in all, it was a decent read, and I always appreciate books in the historical fiction genre that are set outside of WWII.

Good story and characters. The setting was especially well done, giving the historical sense of what life was like in that place at that time. Very solid story telling.

Meh. Was hoping for more, but felt like the typical John Jakes history novel, build up with the characters getting connected to a bad guy, but in this PG version, the terrible never happens and they kill the bad guy with...snakes.
