Entering my reviews over from my old Goodreads profile I unearthed recently...here are some super sappy thoughts from 2010-era 15-year-old Claire!

What's so frustrating about this book - and Nicholas Sparks in general - is that it all starts out so amazing and then ends horrifically and unhappily. And it makes a lot of sense, because if we don't get a happy ending, it's just a simple love story. Which is wonderful, of course. But Sparks wouldn't be able to keep his job if he just kept writing "simple love stories." So really, I understand the need for an unhappy ending. It's poetic and makes you cry and all that. And it especially made sense with this book. I knew it couldn't end happily. And by the end of the book, I didn't want it to.

Soft and heart touching- two words how I would describe this book.

I used to love the movie and finally after some years I decided to give it a go for a book. Someone told me that it’s beautiful- and I can 100% say that it touched my heart in the way the movie never did.

The growth of love between John and his father, the understanding that he had towards the end, appreciation - made me tear up.

Love John had for Savannah, the heartbreak he felt, anger and sadness touched me deeply.

Although the book were amazing, I could say I got a bit disappointed while reading it.

I have read few of Nicholas Sparks books and they are all so deep, all of them makes me cry, but this one, for some reason felt more surface level. I missed the depth in their love, the passion.

But in return I got the chance and the opportunity to find the love between family, son and dad, brothers.

Overall it was a good read, a bit slow but worth the story to fill my heart!

One of the most beautiful and tragic love stories I have ever read. Starting as just a summer fling, the story evolves into the most heart wrenching stories i have ever read. The book tells a story of a broken man, that falls so madly and truly in love he does everything to make her happy... Even give up whatever future they may of had if he hadn't helped her. Truly wonderful and beautiful.
