Ok, maybe this was an unfair four stars. This book had an unfair advantage as I had just finished The Sound of Gravel and Alice Network and was looking for something a little more lighthearted and this (seemed to) fit the bill. Didn't think the characters were particularly well developed, and I hate 'illness as plot device' but the fact that I finished this in one evening speaks to its compulsive readability.

What a beautiful and inspiring story. I really enjoyed the depth of the story, however, I didn’t feel quite as connected to the characters which is why the ending did not impact me as much as it might have been intended. Still, 100% recommend!

Ella lost her dad on her 13th birthday and that was the day she decided she would someday to go Oxford. Her arrival at Oxford happens to coincide with her accepting a job to be on a campaign team for a woman running for Office in DC. She promises she can do it remotely and then she shows up for her first day at Oxford… only to discover that the jerk from the fish & chips shop across the street is her new professor… and might have good reason for how he acted.
This book is clearly well researched, and well written. It’s the second time I’ve read the book. I feel like the author must have experienced loss and knows some of the ins and outs of caring for a loved one going through cancer and death. I really loved reading this quaint Oxonian love story.

I'm not crying, you're crying. Tragic love story, was not expecting this, listened to it in car, spontaneously bursting into tears in traffic.

I loved this journey with Ella from Ohio. I was t sure if I was expecting another Me Before You story and I'm so glad that wasn't the case. I would not have been able to deal. I like to think Ella and Jamie are living their best lives together. Very cute story, in the end I've planned a trip to Oxford because Ella made me want to be in that pub with them.

This is a beautiful romance. It’s beautifully written and made me think about all the times I said I would study abroad and marry a man I met there. Ah the dream.
