While it was funny and entertaining, the jokes were a bit too much on the "who had his penis stuck in what" and just all around "insinuating" kind of way for me.
While I like funny books, I was never one to laugh much at fart jokes, and this one was just too shallow for me to really get amused.

I'll end up with 2,5* as I liked the main character and his pragmatic way - now if the jokes had some other topics on top of just sex it might have worked well for me.

After reading Blott on the Landscape back in July, I figured I'd give Sharpe a read again. And what better to select than his most well-known novel, Wilt.

The eponymous Henry Wilt is a lecturer who teaches literature to uninterested construction apprentices at a community college in East Anglia. He's married to a wife whose sole focus seems to be various pet projects aimed at finding some purpose... each short-lived and unsuccessful. Henpecked and hassled by life and wife alike, Henry harbours dreams of dispatching his irksome wife... but when his wife is suspected to have actually been murdered and he's the prime suspect the charm of her demise soon wears off.

A cast of caricatures rather than characters, but splendidly fleshed out nevertheless, thrust forward the plot with great pacing and clear motivation.

It's funny but more humourous than laugh-out-loud. Some of the humour is a little dated.

Inspector Flint and Henry's relationship is funny, but it felt a little too held back.

The Reverend St. John Froude... amazing!

This book is explicit in the same way that those silly raunchy cartoon postcards are... There's a charm to it all that hasn't lost a lot of shine despite the book's age.

Highly recommended for a giggle.
