WOW. I wanted dark and I got pitch black, middle of the forest on the longest day of the year with a blind fold on dark. I absolutely loved this, it’s dark, erotic, passionate, and poetic…there’s complicated emotions, turmoil, grief, desire and the most vile actions I have ever read. I can’t wait to crack open the next book, I feel like a fiend looking for their next score. I knew West was a snake, he rubbed me the wrong way from the start. Everleigh is so strong and resourceful. Bram oh Bram where do I even start with him, I knew it, that’s all I’ll say is that I knew it. Check your trigger warnings at the cover because this book will check every single one of them.

Wow...! As soon as I finished I raced to download the next one, it does end on a cliffhanger..
This one is definitely very dark and not for the faint of heart. It starts off quickly throwing you into the pitch black, horrific, nightmare world of Whitlock, an "underground world" where money and status can buy the most depraved things you can (and hopefully cannot) imagine. I cannot stress enough if you're interested in reading this series and have some hard stops on certain topics that you check out TW/CWs as this book hits quite a few very uncomfortable topics.
However, if you do take the dive into the world of Whitlock, awful as it is I found myself unable to put the book down. There is murder, suspense, mystery, heartbreak, characters so vile you'll truly despise them, and others you'll find yourself cheering for in the dark recesses of your mind.

The only thing I wish there had been more of is really explaining how Whitlock came to be. It's referenced a bit and you get a very basic understanding, but in order to really understand some of the main characters more information on that would have been interesting. Though I'm a person who is always looking for the background, the "possible why" in stories, movies, etc. when these awful, traumatic events take place. In awful way this is only the first book so I'm hoping that will come later and I've seen there are a few novellas in the series too so maybe it's coming...

On that note, White Out (24690 #2) here we go.

“the bait that treads the water is usually the hook that kills the prey.”

A truer quote was never attributed to a book, I swear. This falls somewhere between static white and oblivion level dark, reader discretion advised. I put off reading this for too long, and loved it. Dark books with actual plots make my soul sing. But I’m definitely going to need to bleach my brain with a romcom before hitting book 2. Fuck me. I am not ok. Send help.
