Ahh, what a fun read! V.I. was so fun to follow around Chicago. I love the straight-up whodunnit, but I was impressed by the choices V.I. made, often defying my expectation for a 1980s woman doing a “man’s job” in the big city.

I love V.I. Warshawski and the collection of women around her.

Quick read for me, enjoyed that it took place circa 1979, no cell phones, no internet. Viv proved to be a badass PI, and she was also very caring.

Indemnity Only is a good first book in a private investigator series. Chicago is a good setting and the book has a well conceived story. A high three star and worthy of putting the next book on the to read list.

Great introduction to V.I. Warshawski. it was nice to see that it holds up after all this time. I must have read this about 25 years ago after the movie came out. Kathleen Turner will forever be V.I. for me.

This book was first released in 1982, and it certainly feels like it belongs to a more innocent and technologically-challenged era. Still, V.I. Warshawski deserves a place in the Parnassos of mouthy detectives and empowered women.
I had a lot of fun reading it, laughing out loud several times in the middle of the street. There is no higher praise for a book.

DNF. I tried but I just couldn't get into the story or really connect with the characters.

Got here because I somehow remembered Kathleen Turner a fabulous role in Undercover Blues and thinking this series was that when I saw it go by in a friend's feed. Instead, it's its own thing, and utterly brilliantly constructed. A most excellent read.

An excellent introduction to V.I. Fast paced and firmly planted in Chicago. Private detection before mobile phones and the internet. It’s now just days until the latest V.I. book is launched in the US. I look forward to the comparison with V.I.’s first outing.
