This was a fine but ultimately forgettable read.

We loved Nim. It was fast-paced and exciting. We couldn't wait to find out if and how Jack would get back to Nim. Nim's relationship with Alex was endearing. A fantastic family read aloud.

I got to read this book with my kids when their school read it. It was very fun to see their excitement in discovering what happened next. It was a quick read, but quite engaging. From having animals as best friends to emailing a famous author, Nim has the best of everything. She gets to work with her dad, but also be left to tend the island occasionally. She has a natural water slide, her own swimming pool, and the best fresh produce a girl could ask for. But what will happen when she has to fend for herself for longer than normal?
I would recommend this book for an advanced beginning reader (1st - 2nd grade). Some words might be too difficult and there is minor peril that happens (volcano eruption, severe storm, etc.)

And so my crush on Gerard Butler began. For a couple months at least.

Billy got me this book for my birthday! Recently, I mentioned to him how I loved this movie as a kid but didn’t realize it was a book! This book brought me memories of my childhood when I would pretend to be brave Nim and rule an island, too.

Cute book, with an unusually brave kid and animals that have a lot more awareness than real seals and lizards. Still, I enjoyed the story and it was good for the proper demographic (not an adult haha!).
I would let my kids read this and hope they got a sense of adventure too!
