This is the 2nd edition of The One Ring roleplaying system set in Tolkien's world. Unlike the 1st edition that covered the whole area we saw in The Hobbit, the 2nd edition initially has a tighter focus on just Eriador, from the Grey Havens to Rivendell. Just like anything published by Free League, the artwork is impeccable. It's a gorgeous book full of evocative art. For that reason alone, I am not sad it graces my shelves, even if I maybe won't play it.

I am still not 100% sold on the rules because it is a very crunchy game. I think to fully grasp the adventuring-journey-downtime loop of the game, you have to play it, not just read it. The rules are a dry read, and there are a few too many systems to keep track of, I feel. Hope, Shadow, Hate, Fatigue, lots of different systems. Again, I can't really say anything about them until I actually try it out. And I will, at least the starter box is on my to-play for 2024 for sure. I will say that everything about this book and the rules oozes Middle Earth and really makes me want to read the books or watch the LotR movies once again.
