In the third book of The Raven Cycle, this was the best book in the series by far. I thought it was more than well written. Also it was well enough that it had romance, but it was not the books main plot. So throughout the third book, Blue, and the boys go searching for her mom ( who is currently missing ) and while searching for her they also continue their search for Glendower, but come across a very important person instead. And while they're searching for more than one person in this book they found out that they're not the only ones searching for these people. Again an amazing book all around. I especially loved the suspense it brings on because it means you can never put it down. I recommend this book to everyone and definitely a MUST READ!!

This book should have been longer. As it was, the ending was crammed into the last fifteen pages and felt extremely rushed. Additionally, the introduction of the Greenmantles, Colin in particular, felt pointless. A good read, but would have benefited from better pacing.

I've discovered what it is that bugs me after reading the last two books fairly quickly... you get all this lovely character development and the story is going but going slowly (and I don't mind so much) and then BAM the ending is all rushed like the author realised they have to make something BIG happen and the book be under 400 pages.

It's annoying, I'd rather have more pages and more growth. Particularly seeing as Adam and Ronan's friendship is something I'd have liked to have seen more of.

I have no idea what the point of Malory being there was, as he was literally just getting in everyone's way for a while until he was conveniently 'gone' until the end of the book where he then goes home.

Kinda hoping the last book is double the length of the others so the finding of Glendower and everything else that happens doesn't feel rushed.

Edit: So, again on re-read I enjoyed this book more than I had previously and didn't find it as rushed on second reading. Things make a lot more sense the second time around and the build of the story works well imo, I wonder now if I was too impatient on first reading whereas now that I have read it before its kind of familiarising myself with the characters again and reliving the story I've allowed myself to enjoy it.

I do quite enjoy Magician!Adam, I'm glad he has chilled out a bit from book 1&2 and that he has allowed himself to move one from his parents and see that Gansey views him as an equal and not a charity case.

I felt like there was a general lack of plot advancement, except in small snippets. The majority of the book was spent in building more characterization, which normally I'm a fan of. However, we've already lived with these characters for 3 books...they don't change THAT MUCH. I enjoyed the book, but I'm ready for the finale already.

So freaking gorgeous! I wish I could have finished this sooner, but oh well! This was an absolutely amazing addition to the series, and I really feel as if the overarching plot is revving up in preparation for the final book! I love the characters more and more (I really loved Adam in this one) and this series is just all round fabulous! Love it! But seriously, that cliffhanger though! And I have to wait till like... February. Why??

Re-read August 2023: Not quite as mindblowingly amazing as the first time I read it. Which has changed - the book or me?

-

This book is pretty dark but SO WELL WRITTEN. And every character is so individual and detailed. Reading this has challenged me to be as detailed with my own characters, which I think is good. It's good to be challenged.

I really wish I had the next book right now but it's probably good to have a break and prolong the ending a bit longer.

I just. So much character development happening everywhere. That's what really makes this series good for me, the characters. They feel so real with the way they act and think, I can barely comprehend it. Without such rich characters (haha a pun, okay sorry) I don't think I'd have even gotten through the first book.

And a slight spoiler so avoid if you don't like anything to do with spoilery content but:
I love the fact that a hit man showed up and just became part of the family? Like? I love him?

Idk but Stiefvater could write a story about a drain plug and be able to convince me that it has feelings and emotions and something important to contribute to the world.
