I think the writing style - using “you” when discussing all white women (including the problematic ones) was so powerful.

Amazing work from Saira and Regina. They succeeded in getting me to stop removing myself from the class of “white women” when I hear about something terrible a while woman has done. After reading I feel ready to admit I’m part of the problem and do what I can to also be part of the solution.

I truly think this book should be required reading for every white woman. It's fairly comprehensive and it's so much more direct than other antiracism books I've read; there's no way you can read this without at least considering your own racism and the ways you perpetuate white supremacism.

This book isn't perfect (it weirdly never mentions capitalism despite that feeling a bit like the elephant in the room at some points) but it doesn't need to be. It's an amazing wake-up call for white women and I really think we'd make a lot more progress more quickly if we could just snap our fingers and have everyone read this. And not just read it, but really really think about how your own racism plays into this.

no mention of capitalism, but plenty mentions of white supremacy and the patriarchy. if you want to dismantle one, you have to dismantle all 3. capitalism plays a huge part in racism. the phrase “black, indigenous and brown people” was used very frequently throughout, and east asians were mentioned once, maybe twice. it felt largely like they were being purposely ignored, which plays into the sinophobia many face today. true intersectionality should include queer people also, and there was mention of One queer person. it would’ve been nice to see mention of american propaganda as well, which plays a huge part in systemic racism and the education white people get.
