This was incredibly written and incredibly important. There was something really validating about this author laying out everything from everyday sexism to mass killings caused by hatred of women and shining a light on it. Even now, I occasionally struggle with the impulse to just laugh off minor sexist comments or write something off as "well that's just a bit of fun," but no more.

I didn't plan to read this right in the middle of my annual "horror book October" but, surprise, it fit in perfectly and was scarier than most of the horror fiction I had checked out. Well-researched if unsurprising to anyone who has been Very Online for the past few years, it was interesting to compare the different flavors of misogyny out there and how they interact and feed on each other.

As someone who is incredibly online, I am more in tune with these countercultures than perhaps most people are. To see page after page of the horrible violence these groups produce was incredibly jarring. The author did an incredible job diving into the darkest corners of the internet and exposing all of the ways antifeminist culture is seeping into the mainstream. I really appreciated her range of interview subjects, governmental document reviews, and interpersonal experiences she shared. The only thing I struggled with was the final chapter on ways to combat this major issue. While she made a lot of great suggestions, they were all carceral and operated in our existing framework. I would’ve liked to see a more grassroots approach, and a shot at imagining new systems we could create to stop these abhorrent groups.
