I was gifted this by a friend before a family trip and remember loving it! The story was captivating and ten year old me liked it very much :)

Sid Fleischman’s clever, humorous writing did it again! A feel-good story full of adventures and scrapes and good-character characters to set a good example!

I remember reading and enjoying this in elementary school, and a friend told me she enjoyed reading it with her son, so we tried the audiobook (my 9 y/o, 7 y/o and 5 y/o)—it was so much fun!

Note: There are some very slight cringeworthy references to Indians and women that may warrant discussion. They are, of course, representative of the attitudes from that period in history. I try to not censor this but instead discuss it with my kids.

My class read this in 4th grade and it was great to re-learn about California Gold Rush history as I read it again this time.
