The hot and cold between America and Maxon was annoying. The ending felt very abrupt and kinda cheap to have one big event solve all the problems at once. I thought we would get more of their story in the next book, but we didn't really, which made this ending even worse for me. Still enjoyed reading it most of the time.

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I really loved reading this book because it went in-depth about the rebels and Maxon and America finally got their happily ever after and more. But I did feel pretty impatient while reading this because both Maxon and America wanted each other but they were both indecisive about it. I’m glad that they found their way back to each other every time.

Maxon and America mostly fight about their political opinions and I understand both of their perspectives. I get why Maxon tries to change his nation by taking small steps since it would cause riots and destroy it more than change it. With America’s lack of experience, she tries to change rules and not think of the consequences. She has pure intentions but doesn’t have a good way to execute them.

I love that the girls started having a wholesome friendship after all that rough competition. They were truly happy for each other and had fun together. Pretty mad that after giving Celeste the character development, the author only takes two seconds to kill her off.

My favorite scene was pg 200 when America called the queen “mom” because she was giving her advice. And the queen said that if the selection goes as she thinks it will then “mom” would be just fine for America to call her. It absolutely melted my heart because of how adorable Amberly was. And the fact that she wanted America to win and marry Maxon was chef’s kiss. Her wish came true but it’s sad that she wasn’t alive to watch it happen.

So good! Celestes character development>>>> the ending was the only bad thing, I wish there was more! Will definitely be reading Happily Ever After, The heir and The crown!

“Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only ever yours to break anyway.”
