This book was confusing and weird--bad weird. Too weird for me. Was it supposed to be horror?  Seemed pretty horrific to me.  A lady on tiktok recommended it, I will not be taking her recommendations again!

I was enjoying the general plot and idea but after some ableist slurs- which I’ve read now continue and then include both racist slurs and fatphobic comments. It’s not a work I want to finish and support

There is some disgusting ableism in here and while looking to see if it continues or is perhaps deconstructed/challenged at some point found out there’s also racism and fatphobia. So disappointed and bummed.

I was somewhat interested in the book until the author casually dropped the r-word out of nowhere. It was  unnecessary to the story and character, and seemed like ignorance or worse from the author. I checked the content warnings on StoryGraph and discovered more slurs would follow so decided not to finish. This book was published in 2019. Come on, use your head. You’re not edgy or interesting by using offensive slurs. If it doesn’t have anything to do with the story or characters, just don’t.
