Really liked this book. It was gross and weird and dark and very fun to read. Like if Mean Girls was really dark and twisted. I do feel like the ending was lacking something—if not more explanations, perhaps it just needed MORE. Just felt kinda in line with the rest of the book and not necessarily the huge climax I was hoping for. If you like weird horror books, you’ll enjoy this one.

“Invested in her own outsiderness”

Where to even begin? This book was a beautiful, trippy discussion on reality and fiction, one that I did not expect to make me cry.

Part 3 was so much more than what I hoped it would be and it completely broke me.

I think this would have been so good for my younger self to have been able to read; the escapism in fiction and allowing yourself to stand out/not feeling forced to fit in are both topics that she really needed to hear.

If I say too much I fear I’ll give everything away and not stop talking, but to those wondering what it’s about, the best way to describe it is as a ‘drug-filled The Craft getting lost down the rabbit hole with Alice’.

one of the most prominent features of awad's writing is her language. her use of literary devices is skillful, and her descriptors are lush and immersive. truly, her words were almost rhythmic at times, and i loved the way the main character, samatha, is so perfectly characterized in this first person narration. in addition to the language, the climax in bunny was so visceral and wonderful. the only let down, for me, was the ending of this novel. for all this momentum, it just seemed like the storyline sputtered out at the very end. this novel is dense with metaphors, and because of this, some people might find this novel a bit hard to grasp or get through. however, if you are a lover of eloquence and complex, metaphor dense plot lines, this book is definitely worth a read.

I don't know what's going on. I don't think I understand this one. Like... at all.

silly time, good popcorn beach/airplane reading. that lead character fucking sucks though, she’s the only thing that sours the fun.

A wonderful fever dream.  I've just finished it and I'm left with a book buzz, but also a small ball of nausea in the bottom of my stomach that only time will settle.  This story was like The Craft meets Heathers.  It's perfect for your average Generation X reader who still thinks it's cool not to sell out and secretly wants to punish those mean girls in high school who had everything.  I enjoyed it and I didn't. It was brilliant.  If you are in the mood for dark absurdity, as one often is in the fall, check Bunny out.
