I'm honestly not sure how I felt about this book. I think I really enjoyed it, but it's the type of story that you really have to sit on for a little while to process. Definitely best to go in blind and not know anything about the plot!

The main character has the “I’m not like other girls” personality, and never fails to let you forget it. The entire story and plot line follow how she is sooo different from alllll the other girls. It’s just an okay book, to me.

The whole review!

The book spoke to me on so many levels… Until the end.

I’ll start with things I like:
At the end of chapter 7, I felt the way they were talking about her (poem). How they wanted “more” from her.

As a girl who’s not accepted by people around me, I related to her suffering. Of wanting to be accepted by others, even by those who you don’t like. And Samantha’s relationship with Jonah reminded me of how often I put those who actually cared about me behind. It’ll keep me up at night being reminded of it.

The creations being creatures combined of the girls’ desires, love and hatred in chapter 11 and later on with Max confused me after getting to the end.

Which is something that made me lost for words, and not in a good way.
Was any of it real? What is real? We know the Bunnies and Max existed, since the Bunnies almost died because of him, but why were the other creations… Almost always failures?

I have so much to say, but I’m growing tired… I’ll give it a 3.75, just because the ending is… Definitely something.

Such a weird book, I struggle to explain it. I truly wonder the point of this book because it doesn't ever fully reach a point really. The end comes and you kind of have the reaction of oh ok I get it but why is that interesting or entertaining? I struggled to finish it but if you really love horror you might enjoy it maybe?

Truly wild and I’m still not entirely sure what happened. Definitely something.

What a wild book. Creepy and odd, the prose feels as fluctuating as the content. Really cool. -.25 just because it feels like it could have been fanfiction about the author not fitting in during her time at an MFA at brown, but truly what a creative way to take it.

What starts as a cross between Heathers and Dead Poets Society with Daria-esque characters, turns into a  mind-twisting tale where you’re not quite sure if you’re in a waking nightmare or not. Samantha’s unfortunate family life and outsider-ness lends itself to the underlying theme of “if you could create the perfect companion, would everything really be fixed?”
There’s so much to this book. I think I’ll revisit it. This feels like a Donnie Darko rewatch where you’ll find something new on each read.
