Contemporary fiction/romance.
The main character frustrated me at times, but I mainly grew to like her regardless.

This book is phenomenal. Just so good. I know I will come back and reread this book long after I have read it over and over again.

To begin, I didn't like the characters at first. I started reading and thought, thank god this is by TJR otherwise I would have put it down by now. I simply have a hard time reading about divorce. I never want to look at a book about having to leave someone you love or loved especially now that I am married. That being said I didn't see any of me or my husband in this book so I really thrived there. I was worried there wouldn't be any growth amongst these characters. I had read previously "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" and "One True Loves" which both featured some character development but not nearly as much as this did. This is the opposite case. These characters grow so much (see my spoilers section) and are so loveable as time goes on. I am not a fan of series in romance, especially if they follow the same main character but a second book about what Ryan did during their time apart would be so amazing.

Reading this book had me thinking about my relationships. If you are coming to this book looking for spice turn around because while this book does mention some of their more intimate moments it does not go into detail. It creates a different vision around marriage, separation, love, and family.  I love me a good fiction book that makes me think about my own life and they are always written by Taylor Jenkins Reid. (Essentially what I am saying is TJR I love you. Notice me. I want to start a fan club dedicated to you).

Anyways, read this book. It's amazing. Another thing this book managed to do was make me cry. I have never actually cried reading a book before and this book had me sobbing. Beginning, middle and end featured such sadness that I felt like it was happening to me. This book ripped my heart up and put it back together again.

<spoilers> The beginning of the book features two characters who say things like "I do not want to go home and pretend to be nice to somebody" which in and of itself is a problem. The ending of this book features two characters who have learned that sometimes love does mean sacrifice or compromise and not always getting your way. It means loving someone even when they "leave their socks lying around" Even when they are doing terrible things like reading each others drafts in their emails they are still trying to find ways to love each other and express their love for each other. The entire book is a way of finding open communication, compassion, and never taking each other for granted in a marriage. I also was low key (okay maybe high key) hoping that David's wife was cheating on him with our beloved Ryan. Maybe this was true maybe it wasn't. I am going to hope that it was for the **drama** <

One of the better Jenkins Reid books that I have read recently. I really liked the format of the book and thought that the story has been well thought out
