i liked how this was different to the other books and it was definitely the best one but i felt like it was building up to a lot and then not much happened.

As a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes, I was intrigued by the series from its premise. Brittany Cavallaro does a wonderful job bringing a new generation of detectives to life in Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson. Overall, the series is highly enjoyable and I would recommend it to fans of Holmes and Watson who would like to see a modern take on a similar duo. The two are not carbon copies of their predecessors, but they are quite similar which is what makes it both compelling and different.
Both Charlotte and Jamie experience a lot of turmoil and change over the course of this novel. The events of the previous book, the Last of August, changed everything and now both are just trying to deal with their lives. I really enjoyed that development, especially from Jamie as this book's focus was more on him than on Charlotte. I felt that she popped up throughout the first half of the novel, but her story wasn't entirely compelling - I always wanted to switch back to Jamie's perspective. By the end of the novel, I felt that she was more ingrained in the narrative and I didn't feel pulled out of the plot.
As this is the third book in the series, there wasn't much more world development or description that could have been added. The world was well described and I could envision each locale, whether I had been to that city before or not. This really is a plot and character driven novel, and that is where it shone. I highly recommend this series and although it felt like a finale to me when I was reading it - I looked on Goodreads there is another book that is going to be published in the series and it is already titled.

A slow start, but overall another great book. Not the last of august bad, but not a study in charlotte brilliant.
