Audible Plus Read: Alien: Covenant Origins by Alan Dean Foster was...not a good read for me personally. Although I enjoyed the tie ins to Alien: Covenant, I was bored for most of this book. I got through 65%-70% and considered DNFing. If it weren't for the fact that I only had 1.5 hours left, I would've stopped reading it. This was more of an overview of the character we know from Alien: Covenant, why the expedition is leaving Earth, the corporations fighting over the mission, and the cult aiming to stop the mission all together. Also, no Aliens were present in this book.

2/5.

Surprisingly great deep dive into Alien lore featuring NO Aliens. Honestly this was a top tier and enjoyable SCI-FI from a writer who has been living in the Alien universe since the first novelization written in 1979. If you are not a huge nerd for the franchise this may not be your cup of tea, but as someone who has always wanted a deeper exploration into the inner working of the capitalist hellscape that makes up the Alien universe I had a great time.

A decent book, but only if you use this as a starting off point. Otherwise for one you'll know the result of the book (Which as this was written later, doesn't really add anything to the series) as I read this before Covenant I found it enjoyable, but really it adds nothing to the series.

Solid prose, action, and dialogue, but the plotting was so aggravating.

It's a prequel so we know what will and won't happen, but none of the attempts to stop the Covenant had any effect at all, it was just a book of "tried, got rekt, bye." There was also a major missed opportunity with the psychic fanatic potentially channeling Engineers, Xeno psychic stuff, or even hitting harder that nah, he was just crazy and accidentally right, but it kinda just sat there.

Worth my time overall as a lore dump about Weyland-Yutani, and the political context on earth, but as a novel, just lots of missed opportunities.

The motivation of some characters seem quite unreasonable. Especially at first. The story do explain their behavior a little though, as the story progress.

A story/book that really didn't need to exist. Well written, but plot was slow and fairly boring. Not watched the film, so that may enhance it. As a book itself - not that great.
