I enjoyed this book, I went in wanting to read a dragon book, and I did get some dragon. Could have had more dragons.

But on the grand scheme of things, there was a lot of extra, unnecessary information, like more than is enjoyable. Also the whole idea behind this plot was balance, but the author definitely didn’t hold it true to what should be major things. And why did the dragons need riders??? And the end happened soooo fast for this being an 800 page book….

Reads like a first time author, despite her having an apparently popular series

I thought this book was okay. It suffered from a common problem multiple pov books often have - the fact that there’s always at least one POV character that I care less about. Reading their chapters just becomes an unwelcome interruption to the story I actually care about. Also let’s be honest. The book did not have to be that long. Just break it up into two books if necessary. Or take out one of the pov characters.

Pros: I honestly liked the romance, the slow burn was nice

Wow. That was such a good read. I expected for this book to take me at least a few weeks to read but I devoured it in days. The world was fairly easy to grasp even tho I had to look at the map a few times to really get it. The number of main character is in my opinion just enough, the number of POV makes the book really full and interesting and the way all the stories are connected is amazing.
i absolutely adored Sabran and Ead’s relationship, especially in the beginning seeing them slowly discover each other and start to like each other! I also liked their open and hopeful ending.
The ending was a little underwhelming, the final fight was really fast and only took like 3 chapters which was very few compared to the preparation for this fight. I also would have liked maybe a little more losses amongst the main characters? It could have been very impactful if one of them had died at the end.

This book has an interesting take on the water-fire dragon dichotomy and I really enjoyed the world building behind the magic system. However the names of all the countries and people mentioned in the book without explanation made me feel like I didn’t understand the world building at all at times. Given the fact that I felt like I was waiting 600 pages for the action to finally happen, I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it was a series of shorter ones. Regardless, I did like this book and will consider reading the prequel to learn more about this world.
