So many things to unpack and so many discussions that can be brought out from here from colorism, racism (all the ism's ), white saviors helping while simultaneously overstepping their boundaries. Rape, Toxic relationships with parents and generational curses. Her writing, no pun intended, is magical and I would like to read more from her especially if it's a solely fictional book.

Overall, I liked this book. I liked the ambiguity of the magic in the beginning when Echo is still young and it can be brushed off as merely her imagination. I really hated the more graphic scenes, and often had to walk away from the book for a while. Analyzing this book for class was really fun at times, but other times, zooming in on the more disturbing sections was highly uncomfortable.
